At the red light, first gear engaged, bend the door and gaze seeking the driver of the Mini, the apprentice pilot of 208 GTi is ready to do battle. A few more shots accelerator in a vacuum, the light turns green and the bombinettes extricate themselves, smoking tires and engines screaming, until the next traffic light ... That's how this comparison could have started 30 years earlier. And finally, it was simpler: the winner was the one who would cross the first next-pedestrian crossing
If the 208 GTi always trust the 1.6 turbo PSA-BMW, the Mini has abandoned: up to a 2.0 turbo "home".
Bygone era. Today, GTI has to be efficient but comfortable, sporty but safe, agile but habitable, temperamental yet economical. Peugeot since the glorious 205 GTI flag is interpreted differently: sage behavior equipment
abounding, amazing comfort.
The new, third-generation Mini "BMW" follows the same path. Length 10 cm wins to clear more space on board. Its new features are borrowed from limousines with, among others, adaptive cruise control, head-up display, controlled suspension, connected applications.
The question is whether, by dint of transforming their cockpits in cocoon, both urban always do honor to their ancestors and offer glorious ... a character worthy of the name.
